Marty Reid for State Representative, HD-4

An Announcement

I’ve announced my exit from the race for House District 4 and I have pulled my name from the ballot with the Texas Republican Party. I know for many of you, this might be surprising, but the situation in House District 4 has completely changed from the day I started running.

We have had many victories in this race since we launched months ago. Speaker Joe Straus announced his retirement and Rep. Lance Gooden, the incumbent, has announced he will not be running again for this seat.

When we first decided to run – we wanted to make sure the people of Henderson and Kaufman Counties were represented by someone in Austin whose record lived up to their rhetoric. Mr. Gooden was rated one of the most liberal Republican Members in the TX House by Rice University – a non-partisan organization. He was more liberal than Jason Villalba in Dallas and more liberal than Byron Cook in Corsicana. Texans for Fiscal Responsibility also gave him an F for his votes against taxpayers. With that record – I felt he could not be supported and that we needed an alternative voice in Austin.

When we announced our run for this race we were under the understanding Dr. Stuart Spitzer was not running again. I have supported Dr. Spitzer in all of his races and he has had a consistent conservative record when he served in the Texas House and is a strong Christian who shares our belief systems and values. Even when Stuart announced he was running, I felt it was important to the conservative movement for me to remain in this race and for us all to work in communicating the same message to make sure one of us won.

As Mr. Gooden has now announced he’s running for the US Congress seat vacated by our Honorable Jeb Hensarling several others have now filed for this seat and I believe strongly the conservative community needs to get behind one candidate – Dr. Stuart Spitzer – who I know will represent us well in Austin.

At this point, I feel if I stay in the race we could cause harm to the conservative movement instead of helping it, so I am throwing all my support behind this great man to serve us well. Please support him. You can read about Dr. Spitzer at www.stuartspitzer.com.

I am so grateful and overwhelmed with the support we have received throughout the District. I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support you have given us – your prayers, your dollars, and your love. Because of your support, we have been able to move mountains and do what was unimaginable when this journey began. We won in my book!

Since I am going back into an activist role – I will also be throwing all my support behind Mrs. Bunni Pounds in her efforts to replace the Honorable Jeb Hensarling against many moderate foes. Bunni Pounds is the person who best represents the values of this District. She is a solid fiscal and social conservative – already endorsed by Congressman Jeb Hensarling, Texas Right to Life, our pro-life whip in the Texas House, Rep. Matt Rinaldi and she has known the people of the 5th district for over ten years and can pull us all together and build a solid coalition in the next 80 days before early voting. I have known Bunni and her heart for a long time and I fully endorse her. You can read about her at www.bunnipounds.com.

Also, I will be supporting Senator Bob Hall for re-election. He has proven to be a great conservative leader with proven results and we desperately need his leadership back in the Texas Senate. He has represented us well. Read about him at www.senatorbobhall.com.

Thank you again for all of your love, prayers, and support. I will never forget.

God bless you and God bless Texas!

Marty Reid
